Meditation and Mala

Meditation has been a key part of my morning practice for many years and I'm passionate about the benefits and insights that can be gained from having a regular mediation practice.

Japa Meditation using Mala

Manta meditation is one of my favourite practices.  In mantra meditation we repeat a word or sound to aid concentration.  This can be linked to the breath (Ajapa Japa) or turning a set of meditation beads (Japa using Mala).

I love to create Mala beads using a simple technique of hand threading and knotting.  The Mala beads that I tie are usually a combination of traditional materials such as rudraksha seeds or sandalwood beads and semi-precious gemstones.

If you would like to buy or commission a set of Mala beads, please contact me to find out what is available.  A fully hand-knotted 108 bead Mala will cost around £40-£60 depending on the materials used.  I can also put together a kit for you to create your own mala if you would like to make your own

Alternatively if you have a group of friends who would like to tie a Mala, I can offer a 1-day workshop where you will be guided through the process.  Tuition including all materials to make one 108 bead mala for £75 per person (min 2 people and max 8 people) plus small charge for mileage.  All you need to provide is a suitable space; a large dining table with comfortable chairs is ideal or floorspace for us to sit.

 Learn-to-Meditate and Group Meditation

At the end of September 2024, I hope to qualify to teach a simple form of mantra meditation as used at Dent Meditation Centre.  The technique is very easy to learn and combined with some theory about meditation, gives you a foundational practice which you can use to explore other forms of meditation

So keep an eye out for 'Learn-to-Meditate' workshops and group meditation sessions which I'll be offering later this year
